Why Goombi?

22nd January 2025

The Goombi Renewable Energy Hub is located along the Warrego Highway between the towns of Chinchilla and Miles, within the locality of Goombi. After a comprehensive site selection and assessment process, this location stood out due to several key factors that make it an ideal location for a wind farm.

The Western Downs region has a strong wind resource that blows mainly during the evening and overnight, making it a perfect complement to the region’s existing solar resources. Additionally, the site benefits from existing high-voltage transmission power lines which traverse the site, allowing for efficient integration of the wind farm into the grid.

The flat, largely cleared farmland further enhances its suitability, providing easy access during construction and enabling wind turbines to be located where they can co-exist with existing farming operations with limited impacts.

Another advantage is the projects compatibility with existing Coal Seam Gas (CSG) infrastructure. The project is being designed to co-exist with CSG operations, highlighting its adaptability and commitment to working within the region’s existing industries.

We’ll be releasing more project updates soon, including how to get involved with the planned Community Benefit Scheme, sponsorship opportunities, and the dates of our next community drop-in sessions.

To speak with a member of the project team, please contact us via email at goombi_notices@lprp.net or by phone on 1300 218 919 with any questions or queries, or to discuss any project opportunities.
