Project Overview
The Goombi Renewable Energy Hub (GREH) is a wind farm and battery energy storage system (BESS) project proposed for the locality of Goombi, in the Western Downs region of Queensland. The Project is located approximately 20 km to the east of Miles and 16 km to the west of Chinchilla.
Once operational, the wind farm will have a capacity of up to 800MW; enough to power over 380,000 Queensland homes and avoid emitting 1.8 million tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere every year.
The BESS will have a capacity of up to 600MW/2,400MWh, providing the project with the ability generate electricity at all times and providing critical services to the electrical grid.
The site encompasses approximately 14,000ha of predominantly cleared, grazing land, of which around 1-2% of this area will be utilised to host the project infrastructure.
The project has been selected for its:
strong wind resource,
proximity to existing high voltage transmission,
predominantly flat, disturbed land used for agriculture and resources development,
excellent transport access,
proximity to skilled local workforces,
strategic location within the Southern Queensland Renewable Energy Zone.
About the Project
Based on the Project’s current design, the Project will comprise the following components:
Up to 106 wind turbine generators. Each turbine will have a maximum tip height of up to 230-270m.
Temporary wind monitoring masts
An electrical substation to connect the Project into the existing transmission network;
A battery energy storage system (BESS);
Internal access tracks;
Internal electrical reticulation;
Other typical ancillary infrastructure, including hardstand areas, storage areas, fencing, quarry/borrow pits, laydown areas, electrical infrastructure, operational and maintenance facilities and construction compounds.
Region and Opportunities
The Western Downs is known as the “energy capital of Australia” and already hosts a number of projects that generate energy and electricity that is economically critical to the region and to Australia as a whole.
These projects not only generate electricity, but local employment opportunities and stimulate business activity throughout the region.
The Goombi Renewable Energy Hub will co-exist with ongoing agricultural and coal seam gas activities, maximising the utilisation of the land and existing infrastructure.
The Goombi Renewable Energy Hub will create up to 300 jobs during construction and up to 12 jobs during the 30 year operational phase of the project.
As the project progresses through the development process, further details of employment and business opportunities will be made available.
We want to develop a project that is sustainable, efficient, beneficial to the community and supports legislated goals to reduce CO2 emissions.

About the Developer
The Goombi Renewable Energy Hub is being developed by Goombi Energy Holdings Pty Ltd.
Goombi Energy Holdings is a partnership between LP Renewable Projects Pty Ltd (LPRP) and TagEnergy Australia Pty Ltd (TagEnergy). LPRP and TagEnergy are jointly developing the Project and TagEnergy will construct, own and operate the Project.
LPRP
LPRP is an independent, Australian owned, and Australia based specialist developer of renewable energy projects, with over 40 years of experience delivering energy projects globally. We are focussed on identifying and delivering the highest quality projects that deliver ongoing value for landowners, communities, investors and the environment.
LPRP’s core expertise are in site identification and validation, project design and development, technical and engineering assessments and securing development approvals. LPRP is a hands-on developer that is committed to engaging openly and effectively with the landholders, stakeholders and communities that will play a crucial and ongoing role in delivering our projects and enabling the energy transition.
TagEnergy
TagEnergy is a clean energy enterprise for a new cycle in the renewable energy industry. It was formed in 2019 to accelerate the energy transition by developing and investing in renewable power stations in order to compete directly and actively on the energy markets.
TagEnergy is operated by a highly-experienced team of manager-shareholders. Its operations span the renewables value chain, from development, financing, construction and asset management of wind, solar and storage projects, to commercialisation of its competitive energy.
TagEnergy has developed a portfolio of close to 12GW across Australia, UK, Spain, Portugal and France, and intends to drive the pace of transition through projects that deliver reliable energy affordably, and at scale. TagEnergy is currently constructing the 122 wind turbine Stage 1 Golden Plains Wind Farm in Victoria.
